On October 23, 2026, Shopify expanded Rollouts to support full catalog scheduling, giving ecommerce brands the ability to automatically activate pricing changes and product availability at any pre-set date and time. With Black Friday 29 days away and $12.9 billion in U.S. online sales projected for that single day (Adobe 2026 Holiday Forecast), this is the BFCM setup every brand must complete before Cyber Week arrives.

What Does Shopify's Catalog Scheduling Mean for Your Black Friday Campaigns?

Previously, Rollouts only supported discount A/B testing. This update extends it to your full catalog layer: pricing, product availability, and market-specific configurations, all triggered automatically at the moment you choose. Brands can now run BFCM at scale without anyone manually changing prices at midnight on Thanksgiving.

What Was Shopify Rollouts Before This Update?

Shopify launched discount support in Rollouts on October 2, 2026, giving brands on the Grow plan and above the ability to A/B test BFCM discount structures before committing to them. The October 23 update expands Rollouts to the full catalog layer: schedule when specific product catalogs go live, switch between them at set times, and launch pricing changes alongside theme or checkout updates, all from a single coordinated deploy.

Think of it as a BFCM launch command. One scheduled rollout handles your pricing catalog, your promotional theme, and your checkout changes simultaneously. For a full overview of every Shopify update this year, see our full Shopify 2026 update tracker.

How Does Shopify Catalog Scheduling Actually Work Before Black Friday?

Three specific capabilities are now live in Shopify admin under Rollouts:

  • Schedule catalog changes: Activate, deactivate, or switch between existing catalogs at a set date and time. Set your Black Friday pricing catalog to go live at midnight November 27 automatically, with no manual intervention required.
  • Test different offers: Run experiments between two catalogs on your online store to identify which pricing or availability configuration drives higher conversion before BFCM. If a 20% off catalog outperforms a 15% off catalog on test traffic, scale the winner with confidence.
  • Launch changes together: Schedule catalog changes to go live alongside your theme and checkout updates in one coordinated rollout, eliminating the brand inconsistency that happens when your sale prices appear on the site before the promotional creative does.

These capabilities are available to all Shopify merchants with an active plan. Experiment mode (A/B testing between catalogs) requires Grow plan or above. The previous discount-only Rollouts feature was covered in our October 2 Shopify Rollouts blog. This is a meaningful expansion of that capability.

What Should You Do Now with Shopify's Catalog Scheduling Feature?

  1. Build your Black Friday catalog now. In Shopify admin, create a separate product catalog with BFCM pricing already configured. Keep your live pricing in the main catalog untouched. The scheduled catalog ensures a clean automated swap without touching live data mid-campaign.
  2. Set the activation date for November 27 at midnight. Navigate to Rollouts in Shopify admin, create a new rollout, select your BFCM catalog, and set the go-live date to Friday, November 27 in your target timezone. Confirm the rollout status is Scheduled, not Draft, before closing the window.
  3. Run a catalog experiment before BFCM. If you are deciding between two discount levels, use experiment mode to split live traffic between two catalog configurations now. Let real data from your own traffic determine which pricing drives higher conversion before you commit to Black Friday offers.
  4. Bundle your catalog launch with theme and checkout changes. If you have a BFCM site banner, updated hero image, or promotional checkout message, schedule them in the same rollout. Mismatched deploy windows create the impression that your sale is broken, not strategic.
  5. Schedule your Cyber Monday revert. After BFCM week, standard pricing needs to return automatically. Create a second scheduled rollout to deactivate the BFCM catalog and restore your standard one on December 2. Plan the full arc today, not during peak week.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Shopify plan is required to use catalog scheduling in Rollouts?

Scheduling catalog changes (activate or deactivate a catalog at a set time) is available on Basic plan and above. Experiment mode, which A/B tests two catalogs against live traffic, requires the Grow plan or above. Check your current plan in Shopify admin under Settings and then Plan.

Can I schedule different pricing for different markets using this feature?

Yes. Rollouts catalog scheduling supports market-specific pricing and product availability. You can schedule a BFCM catalog that shows different pricing in the US versus Canada versus the UK, all from one rollout configuration. Each market activation is independently controllable within the same scheduled deploy.

What happens if I do not schedule a revert rollout after BFCM?

Your BFCM catalog stays active indefinitely until you manually switch back or schedule another rollout. Standard pricing will not return on its own. Scheduling a revert rollout for December 2 removes this risk entirely and ensures your post-holiday margin is protected without any last-minute manual action during peak week recovery.

How is this different from the discount scheduling Shopify added in October?

The October 2 Rollouts update added discount-specific A/B testing and scheduling. The October 23 update expands Rollouts to your entire catalog: product availability, full pricing configurations, and market-specific setups. Discounts are one part of the catalog. This update lets you control the full product and pricing layer on a schedule, not just promotional discount offers.
