On October 2, 2026, Shopify launched Rollouts support for discounts, giving ecommerce brands a native way to A/B test BFCM offers before Black Friday. For 7-9 figure brands preparing for the holiday season, this means you can now test discount amounts on a portion of your online store traffic -- with adjustable 50/50 traffic splits -- before committing to a site-wide offer that could cannibalize margins.
Shopify Discount Rollouts lets you run controlled experiments on your discount offers before launching them at full scale. You can test whether a 20% off code outperforms free shipping, or whether a BOGO beats a flat dollar discount, using real purchase conversion data from your own store traffic. The feature also lets you schedule a discount to launch simultaneously with your BFCM theme update and checkout changes -- so you coordinate a complete campaign launch in one rollout, not three separate deploys.
Rollouts are available on all Shopify plans at the Basic level or higher. There are two modes you need to know about:
All your existing customer eligibility rules still apply within the rollout. Minimum order values, customer tags, usage limits -- all of it carries through. You access this inside Discounts in the Shopify Admin and attach the discount to a Rollout campaign alongside any theme or checkout changes you want to bundle.
An important detail: your existing discount start and end date controls still work independently for standalone promotions. Rollouts is an additional coordination layer, not a replacement for your current setup.

Most ecommerce brands enter Black Friday locked into a discount structure they decided months earlier without data. The brands that win BFCM profitably are the ones who know, before November 28, exactly which offer type drives the highest conversion at the lowest margin cost.
A 15% off code and free shipping on orders over $75 may convert at nearly identical rates, but free shipping protects margin on high-ticket SKUs and encourages higher average order values. A BOGO may drive unit volume but compress margin on your best sellers. Without a test, you are guessing. With Shopify Rollouts, you can know the answer before October ends.
There is also a coordination benefit that is underrated. Most brands have experienced a Black Friday where the discount code went live two hours before the themed landing page, or the checkout promo launched on the wrong day because three teams were deploying changes manually. Rollouts solves this by treating theme changes, checkout customizations, and discount activation as a single bundled deploy with one scheduled launch time.
Rollouts applies only to the online store channel. If you run a headless storefront or sell primarily through the Shop app, Rollouts experiments will not capture those sessions in the experiment data. Shopify recommends running experiments for at least 7 days to accumulate enough conversion events for statistical significance -- plan accordingly so your experiment concludes before you need to lock your BFCM configuration.
The A/B test (Experiment) mode requires the Grow plan or higher. Basic plan merchants can use scheduled rollouts to graduate a discount from partial to full traffic, but cannot run simultaneous A/B comparisons. If you need to test offers this week, verify your plan first.

Shopify Discount Rollouts is a feature that lets merchants include discounts in coordinated campaign launches. You can schedule a discount to go live with a portion of your online store traffic, A/B test two different discount offers against each other, or launch discounts at the same time as your theme and checkout changes -- all in a single Rollout.
Scheduled rollouts -- launching a discount to a percentage of traffic, then expanding -- are available on all plans from Basic and above. A/B testing with Experiments, where you split traffic between two discount versions and compare conversion results, requires the Grow plan or higher.
Yes, and that is exactly the use case the feature was built for. You can run a discount experiment on a portion of your traffic for 7 to 14 days before BFCM, determine which offer structure converts best, then launch the winning discount to 100% of your traffic with real data behind it instead of a gut call.
Rollouts supports standard Shopify discount types including percentage discounts, fixed-amount discounts, free shipping discounts, and BOGO (buy X get Y) offers. Your existing customer eligibility rules -- such as minimum order values, customer tags, or usage limits -- still apply within the rollout experiment.
